The Saudi Arabia coach, and former Dutch star Frank Rijkaard has said that the Dutch national team can go all the way in next year’s EURO 2012 because the team has all the ingredients of a winning team.
Rijkaard, was an important part of the Dutch team that won the European Championship in 1988 with the Netherland team. He thinks that the present Dutch team has the right players and more importantly the right mental strength, mind-set and team élan which make them capable of beating any team in the tournament.
In comments quoted on the official Fifa website he said he thinks the present Dutch team, with the likes of Robben, vd Vaart, van Persie, Huntelaar, Sneijder and Afellay could repeat the success from 1988.

World Champions Spain -now 2nd on the Fifa world rankings list after the Netherlands – have, as was expected, taken the maximum points after 6 perfect wins. They are now in first place. They have a very good team and have no problem putting goals in the net – 21 goals thus far in qualifying – the Netherlands 34 and Germany 25.
The 2nd place in this group is occupied by the Czech Republic who have 2 points more than the next team, Scotland.
Lithuania and Liechtenstein make up the other teams in the group and with 5 and 4 points respectively, dont have any chance of going through.
The Czechs have a better scoring record than the Scots and thus perhaps would be favorite to finish 2nd in the group.
However both teams still have to play the reigning world champions Spain and Scotland away to Liechtenstein and the Czech Republic also away in Lithuania.

The Netherlands are in EURO 2012 after having won all their 8 games by wide margins. See below – http://e-u-r-o-2012.com/2011/09/netherlands-in-euro-2012-final-%e2%80%93-now-mathematically-a-certainty/
If we leave it to the computers then they will tell you that yes, Sweden could still get to first place. They are presently 6 points behind the Netherlands and themselves being chased closely by Hungary who beat them in a very tight game recently. Read on this blog – http://e-u-r-o-2012.com/2011/09/hungary-beat-sweden-in-group-e-netherlands-give-san-marino-a-good-thrashing/
But the computer will also show that the remaining games are a shoe-in for the Netherlands because they are assured of being in the EURO 2012 while they are anything but for both Sweden and Hungary.
Sweden play their last qualifying game at home in the Råsundastadion in Solna against the Netherlands on the 11th October.
Whatever the result of this game, for Sweden to progress as first place they must hope & pray that the Dutch team – Fifa ranking number 1- will lose at home to Moldova – Fifa ranking 87.
Sweden must also hope & pray that they also beat Finland in Helsinki before meeting the Netherlands.
More interestingly Hungary are now level on points with Sweden, and have one more home game with Finland . However Sweden will secure the 2nd place in the group if it wins in Helsinki .

The Netherlands are now the 4th nation to have qualified for next year’s EURO 2012 championships after beating Finland 0-2 in their 8th straight win in their group stage matches.
And while they have a 6 point lead over the next team in the group, Sweden, with only two games left in the qualifiers it is now mathematically a certainty, that even if they somehow lose first place they would at least qualify as the best of the ‘runners-up’ group.
UEFA, the European Football Federation and the organizers of EURO 2012 have confirmed this on their website -

Along with the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Germany along with the hosts Poland and Ukraine are all now officially qualified.
For an extremely well-written report on the Finland/Suomi – Netherlands match by a certain William Moore entitled “Finland 0 Netherlands 2: Non-destructive testing”writing in the autoritative Finnish daily ‘Helsingin Sanomat’ please see-

In Group E, a late goal by Hungarian international Gergely Rudolf won the group qualifier for
Hungary and seems to have ended a miserable number of recent losses to Sweden and
always also at the last minute.
Hungary went ahead late in the first half but Sweden equalised early in the 2nd half
from a goal by Christian Wilhelmsson for which all the work had been done
previously by – no doubt the man-of-the-match Johan Elmander.
The Hungary win was justified by two outstanding goals, which were against the run of play.
Had the controlling Swedes better finished off their attacks and had even an
elementary understanding of basic defense they would have won this game.
Sweden, in the form of its classy striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, hit the post once and were
able to save an undeserved penalty in the first half so Hungary also had luck
on their side.
Credit to Andreas Isaksson’s who, it seems from replays, forced the Hungarian penalty taker to
hit the crossbar high when he anticipated which way he was going to shoot.
Reminicent of a two late last minute goals by Ibrahimović in previous games between the 2 countries, it
now seems Hungary got some revenge. This, when substitute Tamás Priskin was
able to pass the ball past two comatose Swedish defenders to Rudolf who shot in
a very dramatic last minute winning goal.
Hungary and Sweden are now even with 15 points each – Sweden have played one game less and both remain behind the leader in the group the Netherlands, who gave San Marino a very good 11-0 thrashing.

Spain’s number one spot as the world’s best football team – that is the highest ranked FIFA team has come to an end – Holland runners-up to Spain in the World Cup final last year have replaced them
Being in this same position for more than one year, with a loss to Italy -even though it was only a friendly match -means the world and European champions have been replaced by the Dutch national team.
The Dutch team will become just the 7th team ever to head the world rankings.
Uruguay’s recent Copa America wins mean that they are now best of the South American sides in 5th place, with Brazil dropping to 6th.
Germany retain 3rd place and England have moved up one to 4th.
While many deride these almost computer dictated places, there is an element of truth to them and no-one can deny, that the Dutch team remains one of the strongest football teams in Europe and the world.
Fifa’s latest Rankings : August 2011
1. Netherlands
2. Spain
3. Germany
4. England
5. Uruguay
6. Brazil
7. Italy
8. Portugal
9. Argentina
10. Croatia
